verse

I Could Tell

by Austin James

i could tell that you had confused
my hands for his
my arms for his
my legs for his
had intertwined his body and mine
had drawn parallels
between my tongue and his
my soul and his
my touch and his
and at first
i did not represent another
i represented him
but i didn’t touch you the way he did
didn’t look at you the way he did
didn’t kiss you way the way he did
and slowly you realized
that i was not him
i was me
and i was not going to hurt you
the way he did
