The Day It Rolled Downhill

by Gregg Dotoli

We always knew about danger
Atom bombs, Communism and
Dominoes
Inhabited by TV logic
scoutlike belief
secure in politics
interested in money
family building, liberty

Then we heard an ear-shattering
break
and rumble
freedoms crunched under
glops of lie and dishonest lore
Sisyphus shattered his back
Retries no longer welcome here
