Eyes to Eyes

by Kieran Egan

Double glass doors,
she pushed hers going out, he his going in.
A day of humdrum souls.
Leaning and moving, they turned
and caught the eyes of the other,
arm’s length distance apart.
Stop.
Light blue hers, dark blue his,
blond hair hers, dark hair his.
No time to start a smile,
but something gathered like crushed light
in the air between them.
Something dissolved memory.
A whispered incantation
as the doors moved.
Her lips parted, his eyes widened,
and then they were past each other.
She went out, he in.
The end.
